American classical pianist Eric Lu came to attention when he won the first prize and gold medal at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018, aged 20. Since then he has enjoyed a successful career as an international concert pianist with a growing list of prestigious orchestras and solo engagements. He has performed debuts with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and Detroit Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl in July 2021, and the Finnish Radio Symphony, the Helsinki Philharmonic and the Oslo Philharmonic in spring 2022.

Eric was awarded a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant, joining a prestigious list of recipients.

In 2019, Eric appeared at the BBC Proms, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Long Yu, in the final concert of the ensemble’s 140th anniversary world tour. The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and shown on BBC FOUR.

In September 2019, Eric joined BBC Radio 3’s prestigious New Generation Artists scheme.

Eric signed an exclusive recording contract with Warner Classics, who released a recital of Chopin’s 24 Preludes, Schumann’s ‘Ghost’ Variations and Brahms’ Intermezzo No. 1 as his second album. Previously they released a recording of his performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, recorded live at The Leeds with the Hallé and Edward Gardner. Patrick Lemanski, Director of Classics at Warner Music, said, “The way he played Beethoven’s 4th Concerto was so evidently moving that I knew his performance was not just about technique and virtuosity: I was in the presence of a new magician of the keyboard…”

Eric performed the Chopin Preludes for us in December 2019 and we eagerly await his return visit in 2022.
