Concert Outing- November 29^th, 2011.

We have booked tickets and a coach, for the Australian Chamber Orchestra concert with Richard Tognetti, conductor, and Simon Trpceski, Piano, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, on November 29^th, 2011.

The coach will leave Sandown Park Racecourse at 5.30pm, and the return departure time is approximately 9.45 pm.

Spirited, vigorous and considered one of the finest ensembles in the world, the Australian Chamber Orchestra have been described by the Washington Post as having 'the energy and vibe of a rock band with the ability of a crack classical chamber group'.!!!

They open their concert with Grieg's String Quartet arranged for string orchestra by their dynamic Artistic Director Richard Tognetti, who directs from the violin. A melodic work full of rhythmic vitality, it ranges from the stormy first movement to the nimble finale, including an effervescent waltz and many hints of Norwegian folk music on the way.

This is followed by the “easy to listen to” Shostakovich Piano Concerto no. 1 - a work of parallel wit and drama - spotlighting the dazzling dexterity of two young virtuosos, the Macedonian pianist, Simon Trpčeski, and Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth. (A great name!)

The concert ends with Mozart's great Symphony No.40 which has been described by some as possessing 'Grecian lightness and grace' (Robert Schumann) and by others a work of 'passion, violence and grief' (Charles Rosen).
