The Dover Quartet - U.S.A
The Dover Quartet catapulted to international stardom following a stunning sweep of the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition, winning not only the Grand Prize but all three Special Prizes, and becoming one of the most in-demand ensembles in the world. This was followed by first prize in the top US. competition "The Fischoff" and then Britain's Wigmore Hall String Quartet Competition.
Individually brilliant musicians, the members have performed as soloists with some of the world’s finest orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic, however their total commitment to the string quartet in 2013/2014 led to their becoming the first ever Quartet-in-Residence for the venerated Curtis Institute of Music.
Quotable quotes fall off the page, so many abound: The New Yorker recently dubbed them “the young American string quartet of the moment,” and The Strad raved that the Quartet is “already pulling away from their peers with their exceptional interpretive maturity, tonal refinement and taut ensemble.” The Chicago Tribune said: The Dover Quartet have it in them to become the next Guaneri String Quartet- they are that good!"
The Quartet has been re-engaged a remarkable number of times for return appearances throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Great Britain.
We have a treat in store!
Dvorak - "American" quartet
Barber - string quartet
Smetana - quartet "from my life"
