The Oxshott and Cobham Music Society (OCMS) is now in its 66th Season.

Concerts

The Society was established 66 years ago to provide first class recitals of classical music. Our 2007/2008 season of six concerts will feature several international artists together with some of the country’s finest young musicians. All concerts for the 2007-2008 season will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Claygate, which has fine acoustics and comfortable seating. It is easily accessible and there are parking facilities at the church and in nearby streets. (N.B. When circumstances are beyond its control, the Society reserves the right to change the programme.)

Other events

In addition to concerts, members arrange recitals of recorded music in their own homes giving opportunities for members to enjoy music together and to meet and get to know one another. Social events include a drinks party to welcome new members, a New Year Party with musical entertainment, and the AGM, which is followed by a short recital and refreshments. In recent years, members have also enjoyed a summer barbecue. Occasional outside musical visits are also arranged.

New members are always extremely welcome.

Membership

Membership of the society is by annual subscription. For 2007-8 this is £44. This permits members to attend all the concerts in the main series, and to participate in other events which may be put on from time to time. There may be an additional charge for some special events.

Patrons and Sponsorship

The society encourages members to become Patrons or provide Sponsorship. Members can become Patrons for an additional minimum donation of £35 each. They will receive two free tickets for the Patrons' Concert (26th January, 2008) and their names will appear in the season's programmes (unless they prefer to remain anonymous). Details from the Patrons' Secretary.

Work with young people

The society has been working to encourage young people to enjoy and participate in music making, and this is now becoming a significant part of its activities. During 2004-5 the society organised a pilot concert in a local school, and promoted 12 concerts/workshops in local primary and secondary schools during the 2005-6 season. The society is considering what work to undertake for the season 2007-8. This year there is continuing support from the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust, which will permit young people of 8 to 22 years of age to attend the main series concerts free of charge. For details and to provide support contact Suzanne Connor (0208 398 5861).

Previous Years

For archive and information purposes, the web pages for 2005-6 and web pages for 2006-7 are still available. WARNING: If you access these pages you may not be able to get back easily to the latest pages, currently for 2006-7.

It is a good idea to bookmark the main entry point or this page before accessing the link to the archived pages. Further, you may find you get confused, because the information refers to previous concerts. In future more obvious visual clues may be added to make this clearer. The 2005-6 and 2006-7pages should have the dates at the top. Feel free to see what has happened in the past, but do not rely on all the information within this section relating to current membership and activities.
